Rob Piercy is a vancouver-based cinematographer with a passion for visual storytelling that challenges perspectives and sparks meaningful dialogue.
With over five years of experience as a Camera Assistant on high-budget productions and membership in ICG/IATSE 669, Rob has developed a refined understanding of both the technical and artistic aspects of filmmaking.
A graduate of Capilano University’s Motion Picture Arts program, Rob specializes in exploring themes that delve into the complexities of the human experience. His work often focuses on moral ambiguity, isolation, and social injustice, bringing these powerful and deeply resonant narratives to life through evocative visuals and emotional depth.
Rob is particularly drawn to stories that exist in the moral grey areas of life—where characters confront difficult choices and grapple with the messiness of being human. He uses film as a way to explore moments of personal struggle and resilience, crafting stories that foster empathy, connection, and a deeper understanding of universal challenges. His exploration of moral ambiguity invites audiences to question assumptions and confront uncomfortable truths, while his dedication to social justice highlights systemic inequities and amplifies marginalized voices.
Born and raised on Vancouver Island and now living in Vancouver for over a decade, Rob draws immense inspiration from the natural beauty of the West Coast. His love for rock climbing, hiking, and time spent outdoors has shaped his artistic perspective, grounding his work in a respect for the environment and a sense of interconnectedness.
As a Queer filmmaker, Rob has embraced his identity after years of personal struggle. His storytelling reflects this journey, with the goal of empowering younger queer individuals to embrace their true selves with confidence and pride. By creating authentic and inspiring narratives, he hopes to help others see the beauty in themselves and live their truths without fear or hesitation.
